Green Civilization Development Organization (GCDO) is a national, non-governmental and non-profit organization committed to building stronger, more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities in Afghanistan.
We believe that every person has the right to live with dignity, access opportunities, participate in decisions that affect their lives, and contribute meaningfully to the development of their community. Our work is grounded in the belief that sustainable change is strongest when communities are at the centre of identifying their needs, shaping solutions, and leading their own development.
GCDO works with vulnerable, underserved, and marginalized communities, with particular attention to women, children, youth, persons with disabilities, returnees, internally displaced people, and other groups facing barriers to accessing essential services and opportunities. We seek to ensure that our programs are respectful, accessible, accountable, and responsive to the diverse realities of the communities we serve.
Our areas of work include agriculture and livelihoods, environmental protection and climate resilience, humanitarian and social services, community development, education and awareness, and support for vulnerable populations. Through partnerships with communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, development and humanitarian actors, and other stakeholders, we aim to connect immediate needs with longer-term solutions that strengthen resilience and self-reliance.
We recognize that Afghanistan’s communities have significant knowledge, skills, and capacity. Therefore, we do not see communities simply as beneficiaries; we see them as partners and leaders in development. We listen to their voices, value local knowledge, promote meaningful participation, and seek practical solutions that are locally appropriate and sustainable.
At GCDO, we are guided by integrity, inclusion, accountability, transparency, respect, equality, community participation, and the principle of doing no harm. We are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for the people we serve, our staff, volunteers, and partners.
Our vision is to contribute to a world with improved agriculture and communities that are safer, more resilient, and better equipped to face climate and socioeconomic challenges. Through our work, we strive to help create a future where communities can build better lives with greater dignity, opportunity, and hope.
Our Commitment
We listen. We include. We empower. We act.
Together with communities and partners, GCDO works toward a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Afghanistan—where every community has the opportunity to thrive.
